Purpose of Position

The primary role of this position is design, development, documentation and support of mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical components and systems for laboratory and portable instruments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designs mechanical, electro-mechanical, opto-mechanical, and flow control components and/or systems.
  • Performs CFD, thermal and FEA analysis of mechanical components and systems
  • Compiles and analyzes data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or systems.
  • Plans and directs fabrication activities utilizing both internal and external resources.
  • Provide time and cost estimates for R&D activities
  • Project planning and management
  • Concept modeling
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer reports directly to the Mechanical Design Group Leader

External Relationships:

  • Outside engineering resources

  • Meeting the requirements of PD/KPI and project timelines.
  • CAD Solid modeling
  • CFD, thermal and FEA analysis

Desired Background and Skill Requirements

  • MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years experience designing precision mechanical components
  • Motor / pump design experience
  • Opto-mechanical design experience (preferred)
  • Project management skills
  • Extensive material knowledge
  • Ability to use CAD systems (e.g. SolidWorks) to create, manipulate and modify models and drawings.
  • Ability to use CFD, thermal and FEA analysis tools
  • A variety of mechanical test and measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, force gages.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks
  • Make timely decisions and communicate them clearly and concisely

Scope and Impact of Position Responsibilities: This position significantly impacts New Product Research and Development.

Compensation: Pay is determined according to relevant experience.
